Three Main Problems That Music Artists Are Making Today
We are going to look at three music marketing problems today that music artists are making. Let’s look at each of these problems in turn.
Music Marketing Problems No. 1:
Artists are trying to sell music when many people are listening to it for free.
As Tommy says in this video, it does not make much sense. What is the point in making your music freely available while expecting to make a living from it. If you want to learn how to become a full-time musician, please read on.
Music Marketing Problems No. 2:
People are streaming music. Therefore, I can make a living streaming.
This is a possibility, but very difficult to do and not very likely. This is because streaming pennies pay less than pennies per stream. Therefore, you need to generate hundreds of thousands of streams in order to make a decent income. As you are probably thinking, hundreds of thousands of streams is a pretty tough nut to crack.
Music Marketing Problems No. 3:
A lot of tours and live concerts are being cancelled. This is due to the pandemic and the issues that people are facing because of the pandemic. There are some musicians who rely exclusively on live performances.
How to Become a Full-Time Musician and Combat These Problems
Firstly, let’s look at your mindset…
How to Bcome a Full-Time Musician With This Mindset Switch
Instead of marketing your music to people and generating fans, you should be marketing to brands. This is as stock music. There is a lot more money in stock music than there is in streaming, music sales or gigging.
Bach is the example in the video. However, many other classical composers can also be used as the same example. These guys marketed their music to venues where they could go and play. That was the way musicians made money in centuries past.
How to Become a Full-Time Musician as a Stock Music Artist
If you are an electronic music composer, I also advise you to join WeMakeDanceMusic. You can sell templates, sample packs, synth presets, stock music, midi files, etc, through WMDM and earn a great income. I especially like WMDM because you can repurpose products as other products. For instance, you can sell a project as a template for a DAW, but market the same music as stock music. Alternatively, if you have altered the presets that are used in your music, you can offer them as presets.
If you would like to learn more about selling stock music, please refer to this post. You can also find out more about WMDM here.
How to Become a Full-Time Musician By Gigging From Home
The only way that you can take full control over your gigging opportunities and quit your day job is through live streaming. If you use sites such as StageIt.com or the social media live sites, you don’t have to travel. Furthermore, you can spend less time and make a full-time living as a stock music artists while you are gigging on Stageit.com in the evenings.
