In this post, we are going to look at no fewer than 10 websites where you can get free music downloads. This is music for you to listen to as a fan and is not intended for commercial or broadcasting use. Therefore, it is all music that you would enjoy yourself.

Key Takeaways

  • All of this music is completely free
  • It is from multiple genres so your favourite genre will be covered
  • These are from new and unheard-of artists who you won’t be familiar with.

Where Can You Find Free Music Downloads?

There are various sites where you can get free music downloads. Here we will give you each site and show you how you can use the site to get free music downloads. Please remember that this is not for commercial or broadcasting use. Therefore, you are not allowed to use them in any of your YouTube videos or online projects. The music is purely for you to listen to.

1 ReverbNation

Perhaps ReverbNation is most noticeable for starting the careers of many well known acts such as Imagine Dragons.

ReverbNation is one of the oldest platforms on this list. It was founded back in 2006.

How to Download Music For Free on ReverbNation

Click the search box in the top left corner and hit enter. Then go to the “Name field” and delete, “Undefined”. Then put a check mark in the box that says “Free MP3’s Required”. Finally, hit “Refine Results”. You will then be given a whole list of free music for you to download.

If you would like a particular genre, you can find it here too.

If you want artists from a certain geographic location, you can find them on this screen too.

2. Free Music Archive

The free plan of Free Music Archive allows you to listen, share and download free music from literally thousands of artists. There is a paid version that allows you to use music for commercial use.

The free version allows you to use CC0 and CC-BY. This means you are allowed to either use them as Public Domain works or you must attribute the artist when using the track. The latter would just require you to mention the artist in the video description.

If you want music from a specific sub-genre, you can do so.

On further investigation into this site, the music doesn’t really float my boat. It’s not as good as I would have hoped. There is no trance music and if there was, it was almost impossible to find. Therefore, I don’t think I’ll return to the site.

3. SoundCloud For Free Music Downloads

There are two ways that you may be able to find free music downloads on SoundCloud. The first of these is to

Apparently, you can find free music downloads when you click on “More” next to each track. However, this is very rare and it is not very often at all that you will find it.

What is more usual is the Free Download link next to the songs.

What I do like about SoundCloud is that there’s no compromise on the quality of music available. If you have checked out Free Music Archive above, you will notice that the music is not great. Therefore, you’re in safer hands with SoundCloud. They play music like I expect it and as it should be.

4. NoiseTrade From Paste Magazine

You will have to sign up if you want to download either singles or full albums from NoiseTrade. Therefore, you are permitting them to contact you with offers in the future. You will be prompted to sign up either with your email or Facebook.

The music on NoiseTrade is free of charge. However, there is the ability to tip the artist if you are able to do so. It is not an obligation, but it is appreciated. Furthermore, the suggested tip is $6, but you are able to make up your own mind over how much you are happy to offer.

5. Last.fm

Last.fm is one of the oldest music sharing platforms on the net. It was established back in 2002.

The way Last.fm works is like the Spotify algorithm. It works by measuring your current listening habits and tailoring the music they recommend to you based on your current and past listening habits.

Although not all tracks are free, Last.fm has around 12 pages of music that you can download for free.

6. Internet Archive (Audio Archive): The Largest Source of Free Music Downloads

Internet Archive boasts thousands of terabytes of audio recordings. Therefore, you are bound to find something you like on this platform. You also need to sign up if you wish to download music. As well as music, you will also find other audio products such as audiobooks, sermons, documentaries and more.

How to Download Music From Internet Archive (Audio Archive)

If you want to download any of the music from Internet Archive, you simply need to scroll down on the play page to where it says “VBR MP3”. Click that and then click the three dots and Download. It’s a simple process and you will be spending many happy hours trawling through the millions of audios available here.

7. SoundClick

SoundClick is easy to use. I think that’s why it’s a joy to experience. Finding the right music is a breeze. All you need to do is type your genre in the search bar and it will give you a list of tracks that you might want to download. To download, simply click download next to each track.

8. Musopen

If you enjoy classical music, Musopen is a site you will want to investigate. I do enjoy listening to a bit of classical music myself, but it’s not my biggest love in music. Also, when I listen to classical music, I listen on the radio.

Musopen also has sheet music available as well as MP3 free music downloads.

BONUS: Hypeddit

Hypeddit is my favourite of all the free music downloads websites. This is because I have more familiarity with it. I’ve been a member for several years and much of our own music is available on Hypeddit.

There are various ways that you can download music through Hypeddit. These include the Promotion Exchange, Hot or Not and the Top 100 charts for around 50 different genres (a total of 5,000 tracks).

Conclusion

Some of these are going to be better than others. However, you will definitely find something that you enjoy on these websites. Therefore, I hope I have helped you to discover new music so that you can boast to your friends about your artist-finding prowess.
